The date for the 2025 Men’s Scottish Varsity Rugby Match between the University of St Andrews RFC and Edinburgh University RFC has been confirmed for Saturday 20 September.

Through a continued partnership with Scottish Rugby and Edinburgh Rugby, the event will return to the HIVE Stadium, Edinburgh.

With in excess of 10,000 spectators having attended previous Scottish Varsity Matches at BT Murrayfield, the universities are hoping this year’s event will see a sell-out crowd at Edinburgh Rugby’s 7,774 capacity stadium.

The Scottish Varsity Match between Scotland’s two oldest university rugby clubs dates back more than 160 years, and is believed to predate the annual Oxford versus Cambridge Varsity Match. Formed in 1857 and 1858, respectively, Edinburgh University RFC and the University of St Andrews RFC are two of the oldest rugby clubs in the world, with only the Edinburgh Academical FC claiming a longer existence in Scotland.

Match tickets

Tickets for the 2025 Scottish Varsity Match will be released on Wednesday 14 May. There are a limited number of tickets so purchase early to avoid disappointment.
